Professor Chun is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at Seoul National University, and is one of South Korea’s preeminent anthropologists. His research and publications extend over a great many topics throughout East Asia, but of special relevance here is the fieldwork he has done in Suye Mura and the surrounding region, especially on folklore, popular religion, and local pilgrimage. He has participated in a number of events in Suye Mura with Mr. Tanaka. He has also been a visiting professor here at Yale, sponsored several times by CEAS, for his research on material culture and museum studies.
